The Hilfsverein Nächstenliebe e.V. organises a knitting circle regularly. It takes place every 14 days on Fridays. Dates and times are published here. It is a meeting place for young and old from near and far – open to all. Visitors come from all around Leipzig. Solitary persons come out of isolation. There are interesting conversations over coffee and biscuits. Socks, hats, scarves, gloves and pullovers are made during the event. The knitted items go as a gift to freezing children in Eastern Europe.

We, the parish of Philipp Neri, offer a family breakfast every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (except during school holidays) in the Lindenau church café at Karl-Heine-Straße 110. The program includes singing, playing and having breakfast together. We would also like to open this breakfast to mothers and their children who had to flee the Ukraine in order to offer a place of encounter and exchange. You want to play football together with other women and girls?
From 27 April 2022, we will be offering an open football and training meeting for women and girls (aged 14+) every Wednesday from 5-6:30pm on the football field at Arno-Nitzsche-Str. 35. The training takes place in German and English – but if you don’t speak it, that’s no problem.
It doesn’t matter if you already have (football) experience, we’re all about fun and community, team spirit and a space for meeting and exchanging ideas.

Many Leipzig sports clubs want to offer refugees in the current situation a balance and distraction from their difficult everyday lives. On the website of the Leipzig Sports Association (Stadtsportbund Leipzig e.V.), you can find various training and exercise programmes offered by sports clubs for refugees. The clubs and their sports offers are spread throughout the city.
The children’s and youth center in Grünau offers refugee children and young people and their families a free hot meal from our kitchen as well as free use of our recreational rooms and computers. They are also happy to assist in finding accommodation and medical connections.
Starting in May, we invite you to join us every Thursday (holidays excluded) for TheatrX Open Space! In the TheatrX Open Space you will meet new people and get moving or resting – depending on how you feel! Theater educators and guests from the ensemble and other departments of the TDJW (Theater der Jungen Welt) will create workshops for you. Together we play, dance, do handicrafts, discuss. Let’s try out what theater can be. And maybe at some point you’ll have an idea of what you’d like to do with us in Open Space…
TheatrX Open Space is an open offer. This means that you can decide every week if you want to come or not. The room is accessible without stairs. You don’t need any previous experience. We respond to your needs and use simple language.
The music school “Neue Musik Leipzig” offers free lessons for refugee children and young people. The music school and our colleagues provide instruments for practicing and playing. Children and young people can practice and play together in our rooms. Ukrainian music teachers are also welcome!
The Leipziger Tanztheater offers young refugees (children and young adults) the opportunity to participate in our dance classes for free.
Thereby we want to respond to recent events without losing sight of existing circumstances and emergencies.Within the scope of dance theater we want to make a contribution to recreational activities, exercise, expression and meeting on a creative and cultural level. Free participation is possible for recognized refugees or when you hold an Ukranian passport.
The Neighborhood Café is a meeting place that will enliven the neighborhood and bring together people of different origins, cultures, languages, religions, and ages. It offers space to spontaneously escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life over coffee, tea or a cold drink, to pause and rest over a small snack. There is room for conversations in a small circle or in private. For the younger guests there is a play corner. Also there is a garden and a possibility to play table tennis. Drinks are available (if possible) for a small donation.
In addition, various cultural activities can be enjoyed, which take place after or during the café’s opening hours:
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 3-6 p.m. From 28.03.22 the cafe is open from Monday-Friday and opens an additional Ukrainian room as a retreat on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. There you will find contact persons for small and big problems of everyday life in Germany. In addition, you can register for the German course, which will take place twice a week starting on 04.04.
