Outside of the varying opening times of these two institutions, which you can find on their respective websites, it is best to contact the ‘amtstierärztlicher Bereitschaftsdienst’ (official veterinary on-call service).
You can contact them either via the
Polizeidirektion Leipzig (Leipzig Police Headquarters)
Phone: 0341 966 0
or
the ‘Integrierte Rettungsleitstelle’ (Integrated Emergency Control Centre)
Phone: 0341 555004 4000
Alternatively, you can also try the Notdienst der Leipziger Tierpraxen (Leipzig Veterinary Practices Emergency Service):
Phone: 0341 94679466
Ideally, your pet is chipped and registered with Tasso. If it is found, the chip’s data can be scanned and the hopefully honest finders can contact you.
If you still haven’t had the chance to chip and register your pet, give the Tierheim and Veterinary Office your contact details along with as detailed a description as possible, or ideally a photo, and tell them when and where your furry friend is thought to have escaped.
You should also post a missing pet notice. In Leipzig, you can do that here, for example. You should also hang photos of your missing pet around the area where it disappeared. Please note the regulations on putting up such posters in the respective neighbourhood. You can also place a missing pet notice with the Tiermeldezentrale.
If you require help with communication and translation, please contact LHU.
