Why do I have to microchip my pet?

When travelling to EU countries, your dog, cat or ferret must be microchipped. Usually, your pet should already be chipped when entering the country, but as regulations are currently more relaxed, it is currently possible to do so without a chip. If your pet is still not microchipped, it is best to get that done right away.

Chipping means that a small RFID microchip is implanted under the skin of your pet. This can then be read by a vet, for example. This allows them to clearly identify the animal and check whether it has had all of its vaccinations, whether it really belongs to you and whether it has any pre-existing conditions to be able to provide the best treatment.

The chip is passive and can only be read in close proximity to the animal using a corresponding scanner. The data is limited to a simple number that is stored in a database with the pertinent information: vaccination status, medical history, registration and owner.

Important: Chipping alone is only a job half done. To take advantage of the chip, you must register your pet and its responder number online with Tasso.

This organisation enters your pet’s data (medical history, own, allergies, etc.) into a database. In order to do this, you need to register online and enter your pet’s details.

Unfortunately, the website is only available in German. If you need help registering your pet, please contact us or your vet.
