What are the first steps after entering Germany with pets?

You are requested to inform the Veterinary Office where people are living with animals (or where only the animals are being housed). In some cases, an official veterinary assessment will be required.

An appointment for this can be made by phone on 0341 123 3791 or by email to veterinaeramt@leipzig.de. As there are usually no Ukrainian-speaking staff on site, it is advisable to seek help with these processes. You will find a list of contacts and helpers here:https://t.me/translators_leipzig_ukraine.

In our experience, the next steps after the inspection are usually:

  • Visit to a veterinary practice
  • Identification of the animal with an RFID microchip
  • Issuance of a pet passport
  • First or follow-up rabies vaccination (there is a 21-day quarantine period from the date of the rabies vaccination)
