I’ve found an animal. What can I do?

If you find a stray pet, you should contact Tierheim Leipzig and the Veterinary Office.

Here are the contact details:

Tierheim Leipzig

            Tierheim Leipzig-Breitenfeld
            Gustaf-Adolf-Allee 35
            04158 Leipzig-Breitenfeld

            Phone: 0341 9117154
            Fax: 0341 4622903
            Email: info@tierheim-leipzig
            www.tierheim-leipzig.de

Veterinäramt Leipzig (Veterinary Office Leipzig)

            Veterinär- und Lebensmittelaufsichtsamt
            Theodor-Heuss-Straße 43
            04328 Leipzig

            Phone: 0341 123 3791
            Fax: 0341 123 3795
            Email: veterinaeramt@leipzig.de

Outside of the varying opening times of these two institutions, which you can find on their respective websites, it is best to contact the ‘amtstierärztlicher Bereitschaftsdienst’ (official veterinary on-call service).

You can contact them either via the

            Polizeidirektion Leipzig (Leipzig Police Headquarters)

                        Phone: 0341 966 0

            or

the ‘Integrierte Rettungsleitstelle’ (Integrated Emergency Control Centre)

                        Phone: 0341 555004 4000

Alternatively, you can also try the Notdienst der Leipziger Tierpraxen (Leipzig Veterinary Practices Emergency Service):

            Phone: 0341 94679466

Generally, the animal is then collected by an employee of the Tierheim or the city and cared for from there.

You can also place a lost and found notice with Tierheim Leipzig or the Tiermeldezentrale, for example.

If you require help with communication and translation, please contact LHU.
